ANGLICAN CHURCH ANNIVERSARIES

This year is going to be a big year for our Church community -
the 225th Anniversary of the Anglican Community and 200th
Anniversary of Christ Church in Bloomfield. In 1786, the Rev'd
James Scovil, Kingston, started taking occasional services in
what was called Norton at the time, now called Bloomfield. In
1797, two and a half acres of land was given to the church by
Loyalist Simon Baxter, and fourteen years later, on June 3rd,
1811, the Church building was erected; it was 30' x40' and was
used in the summer for services and finished in 1822.
In 1826, July 18th, Christ Church was consecrated as the
Parish Church by the Right Reverend John Inglis, and 34
persons were confirmed. In 1838, the Church building was
moved across the road to its current location and put on a
piece of land given by John Cook Hayes. The moving was done
by Isaac B. S. Raymond using 13 yoke of oxen!

go back to the last new millennial, 1011. The only
historical event I can dredge out of my high school history
lessons would be 1066, the date of the Norman invasion of
England. I have never heard referred to as anything but ten

everything off! Language is an interesting thing;
meanwhile I still use both pronunciations at various
times.
There is something calming about winter, once the snow
falls. I am not into the cold (or heat for that matter), but I
love the winter landscape. As a kid my brother and I spent a
lot of hours outdoors, building snow forts, sliding, skating
on the flood plain of the brook if the weather conditions
at the co-operated. I am able to recapture a little of those days
now with my grand-daughter, who is nearly five. We did
Sussex Legion some shovelling together over the holidays, followed up by
building a snowman and later going sliding. Remember
January 22nd, 2011 those carefree days of childhood, when the quality of the
snow was the biggest issue on your mind - was it sticky and
9am-2pm "packy", perfect for snowforts, or light and fluffy and
meant for a toboggan. And if we were lucky enough to have
crust, life was really good!

winter. It is not just for curling up with a book in front of
the fire, but includes snowshoeing through the wood

plain playing outdoors with my grand-daughter.
