Probing
A closed-ended question is a form of
question which can normally be answered
using a simple "yes" or "no", a specific
simple piece of information, or a
selection from multiple choices.
No options or predefined categories
are suggested.
The respondent supplies their own
answer without being constrained by a
fixed set of possible responses.
Seek to uncover information about
someone or something.
Probing is a way of digging deeper
into further information in your
questions.
Encourage to ask questions at
any time.
Give adequate consideration to
all questions--never evade a
question.
Pose questions within the ability of
person to whom the question is
addressed.
Do not permit frequent group
responses.
Ask open-ended questions
Avoid asking questions that can be answered
by guessing.
Use the key words of questioning--how, why,
when, where, what, which.
Use correct grammar and terminology.
Keep questions on the subject.
