Malta is a tiny island, which lies in the Mediterranean Sea, just south
of Italy and Sicily. Nearby is the tiny island of Gozo, and the even
smaller islands of Comino and Cominoto.
Physical and Manmade Features:-

Malta has no mountains or big rivers, but it has a well indented coastline
therefore proving numerous harbours, bays, creeks, sandy beaches and rocky
coves.

Located in Malta’s capital city, Valletta, is one of the main man made
attractions of Malta. St. John’s medieval cathedral is mainly famous for the 369
inlaid mosaic marble tombstones. Each tombstone depicts the lives of the
Grand Masters of the order of St. John, buried underneath.

Another of Malta’s main man made features is The Hypogeum. The Hypogeum
is a labyrinthine complex of man-made chambers, constructed from limestone.

Other information:-
In Malta the most commonly spoken languages are Maltese and English. A
small majority of the population are also fluent in Italian. The currency of
Malta is currently the Euro, and the estimated population in 2007 was 410,290.

Seafood is very popular in Malta, as it has many small fishing towns, and a
wide variety of fish to choose from! The national dance of Malta is the Il-
Maltiga, which is performed in 18th Century costumes. The ladies wear brocade
dresses, full skirts and the men wear black velvet tights, long coats and white
satin waist coats. All the dancers wear white wigs.

Malta is a democratic country – each person votes for a President of the


Republic every five years. The role of president is considered to be the head of
state, and the event is largely ceremonial.
