INSTRUCTOR
Nortel DMS – 10

Digital Multiplex System (DMS) – 10 is a system carrier class central office

switching platform offering service options ranging from simple dial tone to advanced

voice and data networking.

Designed for small to medium applications, DMS – 10 enables it to fill many

needs in the telecommunications network:

 Standard Configuration - has a capacity of up to 20,000 lines

 Service Switching Point - provides CCS7 trunk signaling or data base queries for

call routing

 Service Control Point - provides intelligent network functionality for service

providers

 Signaling Relay Point - provides A-link consolidation to reduce the cost of CCS7

deployment to rural networks

 Signaling Transfer Point (STP) - provides message routing and link management

to support inter-switch call control and service access

 Configuration Versatility

 End Office - a switching center where subscriber loops are terminated and inter

switch trunks and local lines are interconnected for extended area and toll calls

 Access Tandem - a major switching center linking together end offices,

particularly where it is not economical to provide direct connection into or

between all end offices

Hardware:

 All power distribution is at -48 VDC (nominal), from which DC to DC

converters on every shelf provide other necessary voltages.
