Plagiarism Assignment – COMM 602 Liz Horgan October 19,

2009

1. Word-for-word plagiarism:

Therefore, the level of learning that results is determined by the way in

which the conflicts between dialectically opposed modes of adaptation are
resolved.

2. Mosaic plagiarism:

Learners must choose between abilities that are polar opposites. They must
choose between feeling versus thinking and active experimentation versus
reflective observation in an attempt to understand the world. The level of
learning that results is determined by the way conflicts between these
opposite modes are resolved. Based on heredity, past life experiences and
the demands of our present environment, most people gravitate to learning
styles that emphasize some learning abilities over others.

3. Paraphrase:

In any learning experience, learners must choose between opposing abilities:

thinking versus feeling and internal versus external processing. The actual
level of learning achieved results from the way these conflicting abilities are
adapted and synthesized. Richer learning involves using all abilities, though
heredity, past experience and current circumstances can result in the
emphasis of some learning abilities over others.

4. Correct attribution of source

Truluck and Courtenay (1999) suggest that “in any learning experience,
learners must continually choose between abilities that are polar opposites…
the individual, in varying degrees, moves from actor to observer, and from
specific involvement to analytic detachment” (p. 226). They found that
actual learning depends on which abilities are emphasized and how the
conflicts between them are resolved.
