Duffy to the office of Lieutenant Governor. My candidacy results from an unusual set of circumstances that require our next mayor to have the experience and a proven record of leadership to manage this city. had 12 enjoyable and productive years as Mayor from 1994 through 2005, and | have been immensely enriched in my career as a teacher and researcher of urban planning and policy. To be involved in shaping the careers of the next generation of public servants has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The prospect of interrupting those important acti re-engage in elective politics is not taken lightly. However the series of strange events of the past three weeks, which have produced three mayors in a city that previously had three mayors in 37 years, are too serious to ignore. Suddenly, a city known for stable governance and transparent leadership is now becoming. known for uncertainty and backroom dealing. In recent weeks, have been approached by an ‘amazing number of people that are extremely worried about the future stability of this city and the openness of government to the people that it serves. City Hall must be returned to the people. Today | ask for your support as | begin the campaign to bring stability, integrity and transparency back to City Hall, Ihave the experience, the networks and the broad support to wage a very short campaign that can be quickly assembled and successfully implemented. I look forward to appearing before the upcoming Democratic convention to set forth my vision for the future, which is based on my record of service to this community over the past 38 years. | will outline how my administration will restore the principles of full citizen engagement in important issues such as public safety, education, economic development and many others that confront this community. | welcome your questions about my candidacy, and my record.
