TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Methodology in language teaching has been characterised in a variety of ways. It links theory and
practice.For Effective language teaching a good anad effective method must be adopted by a
teacher. Before deciding the teaching method to be adopted, a teacher needs to vonsider primarily
the students background , knowledge environment, and goals. Since students have different
absorbing techniques the teacher must often use the different techniques to help them
understand and retain information.

The most widely used methods are:

1) Explanation Method: Most widely used method similar to lecture method. Explanation can
be made more effective by modelling. Use of visual aid to learn. For example while teaching
students to draft invitation cards and posters one can use specimens of marriage cards and
newspaper posters as models for effective teaching.

2) Demonstration Method: It is most widely used in teaching science. However in language


teaching , when a teacher uses the technique of story telling, anecdotes and examples it
simplifies many abstractions and eases the learning process.

3) Questioning Method : Quetioning ad testing are always effective teaching methods due to
its interactive nature. It helps the teacher to know what the students have learnt and it also
helps in deciding wht should be taught further.

It can be vice versa and encourage students in a positive way.

4. Coloborating: Students work in groups his method helps learning faster and more
interesting. Udents discuss wih each other all points of view . Students ability to work in a
team, leadership skills or presentation abilities This is the most emphasised methods in
modern times. This method prepares students to train themselves for GD’s, interviews.

5 Inductive method: this method goes from specific to general .
