Contact InformationE-The Environmental Magazine, a non-profit publication, was conceived during the “Greenhouse Summer”of 1988,
amid reports of medical waste washing up on New Jersey shores, fires in Yellowstone National Park, and growing public
concern for the environment. E launched in December 1989 with a January 1990 cover date, in the wake of the now
infamous Bxcn Valdez oil spill. The first issue appeared in mailboxes and on newsstands on the eve of the 20th
anniversary of the first Earth Day, just as people were dubbing the 1990s “the environmental decade.’
A substantial magazine, E covers everything environmental, from recycling to rainforests, and from the global village to
‘our own back yards. E was formed for the purpose of acting as a “clearinghouse” of information, news and resources
for people concerned about the environment who want to know, “What can I do to make a difference?”
E reports on all the key issues: water and air quality, climate change, endangered wildlife, the state of our oceans and
fisheries, and population growth impacts - all with contact information so people can plug into efforts to turn the
tide. E also provides practical information on a range of lifestyle topics in our GREEN LIVING section.
Subjects covered regularly include: environmental health (Your Health column); green home issues (House & Home);
personal finance ‘with a green conscience” (Monew Matters); healthy eating (Eating Right); eco-travel (Going Green);
and green consumer products and trends (Consumer News & Tools for Green Living). Also, our EarthTalk column - also
rationally syndicated to 400 newspapers and websites -- interacts with readers by fielding questions on a multitude of
environmental topics and concerns.

Since its launch, E has drawn considerable recognition for its style and content, and has won numerous awards for
editorial excellence and for covering issues “overlooked or underreported by the mainstream press.” E is featured,
quoted and reprinted widely by the press, and is regularly syndicated by several national and international news
agencies, including The New York Times Syndicate, and Alternet. E articles are also frequently used by environmental
organizations in their activist efforts in communities, with the press, and on Capitol Hill.
‘Most important, E helps readers become active! Readers responded enthusiastically to a recent questionnaire about.
actions they had taken in the last year. Here's what they said: 70% wrote letters to legislators; 93% recycled at home
and their office; 71% volunteered for an environmental non-profit group; 59% became personally and actively involved
in a local issue; and 93.5% are now willing to spend more for environmentally-friendly products for their families and
home.
‘Americans have a pressing need for information that empowers them to act on the myriad of environmental problems.
that confront us every day. E's unbiased, hard-hitting journalism provides the facts, inspiration and resources
Americans need to make a difference, whether in their roles as consumers, parents, business people - or as activists,
engaged in local, regional or global environmental struggles. E is the tool that helps us be effective in our efforts to
preserve and protect our environment for future generations. As E celebrates a milestone - its 15th Anniversary - it
will continue to keep environmental issues alive in the press, in government and industry - and at home on a personal
level.
