Introduction:- Radiators are used in Distribution & Power Transformers for oil
Natural & Air Natural cooling of Transformers. When high voltage lines are injected
in the HT side of the transformers (primary) the LT side voltage is inducted
(secondary) causing there by heat which is generated in both the windings of the
transformers. This heat is further transmitted to the oil kept inside the transformers.
A pressure is developed inside the transformers which causes the oil within
transformers to circulate when the Radiators are filled to the body of the
transformer, the heated oil is circulated through the radiator through the gate
provided in the transformer causing the oil to cool down & recycling process goes
on throughout continuously so as to maintain winding & oil temperature within the
transformer under permissible limits. Since there are about 20 nos of transformer
manufacture unit in the state of Orissa & there is not a single radiator unit in the
state. The existing unit are depending for radiators from Kolkata & other places.

Design Aspect:- There are different types of radiators which can be manufactured as
per the requirement of the purchaser. The radiators are comprised of fins filled in
parallel. The no. of in a particular transformer depends on its size, rating & temp
rise parameters. Basically radiators are of two types such as plate type & pipe type.
The pipe models are more expensive than the plate models & less effective so far
as cooling is concerned. But pipe models are preferred much due to its simple
design & mostly used in less hot area.

Manufacturing Process:- MS plates of different thickness as per design are selected

for manufacturing of radiators & cut to required sizes as per requirement with the
help of sheering machine. Then the plates are kept inside the s
