1. Cohort:
a. Cant control all the variables
b. Retrospective cohort you usually see as a chart review. But if you
go back in time you might have to collect a lot of data that was not
taken. Done because cheap and easy.
c. Prospective in when you follow the pt. forward in time. You cannot
have a group of babies exposed to smoke and a group not for a
randomized experimement not ethical.
d. But you know these situations do exist so you can just follow pt. in
theses situations. But with this you cannot control all the variables
affecting each group.
2. Case Control:
a. Picked based on outcome
b. You take the cases and compare then against the control
c. Cant do cause and effect cause you u cant control
d. Very good for rare events this that take years
e.
3. Cross Sectional
a. Do not follow pt
b. Just gives you a piece of information in a snap site in time
4. Crossover Study
a. No Placebo
b. The pt. serves as there own control.
