WAVES

• Wave : Disturbance that transfer energy between 2 points through vibration

in a medium without transferring the matter between the 2 points

: Two types ~ Transverse waves

~ Longitudinal waves

TRANSVERSE WAVES
• Wave which the direction of vibration of wave particle is perpendicular
to the direction of travel of wave
• Example of transverse waves : Water waves
: Light waves
: Radio waves
: X-rays

LONGITUDINAL WAVES
• Wave which the direction of vibration of wave particle is parallel to
the direction of travel of wave
• Example of longitudinal waves : Sound waves

• Wavefront : Line that joins all the points vibrating in phase

Amplitude : Maximum displacement from the equilibrium position

Period : Time taken to make one complete oscillation

Frequency : Number of oscillation produced in one unit time

: Unit [hertz(Hz)]

Crest : Highest points of a wave Trough : Lowest points of a wave
