ECLIPSE software:

ECLIPSE family of softwares offers the industry’s most robust solution for predicting the dynamic
behavior of reservoir including its Geology, structure, fluids and development schemes etc. A no. of
options are available to be chosen as the testing option. ECLIOSE black oil simulation provides three
dimensional simulations to support extensive well controls, simulation models and Enhanced oil
Recovery schemes. ECLIPSE compositional simulation describes reservoir fluid phase behavior and
changes in the composition of fluid along with the depth of reservoir. ECLIPSE Thermal simulation has
the widest variety available for thermal enhanced oil recovery options.

In ECLIPSE 2010 version, we have the option to simulate the reservoir for CO2 injection and other
thermal oil recovery methods.

Reservoir Monitoring:

The greater Burgan field in Kuwait is surrounding an area of 320 square kilometers with more than 1000
production wells. A traditional way of collecting all the reservoir parameters through conventional way
is investigated. This data is collected by inserting some electromechanical sensors inside the reservoir to
gain specific information regarding Temperature, Pressure, reservoir permeability, sweep efficiency
water saturation, well productivity index and fluid rates of oil, gas and water etc.

During the well completion phase, certain sensors are installed inside the wells at various places so as to
measure the temperature and pressure of the reservoir at different depth levels. During EOR process,
usually temperature gradient and pressure gradient are known to the reservoir engineers, basing upon
this information specified amount of steam, chemicals or hot water is injected inside the injection well.
This gradient can also be estimated by having an observation well in between the injection and
production well and measuring the temperature and pressure inside the injection well, production well
and observation well (EOR Marcel Latil, 1980).
