Standard 2: Teaching and Learning

2.3 Effective and Knowledgeable Teacher

Artifact 3: MEDA5925 Collaborative Lesson Plan-Recycle and Readers’ Theater

Justification

The artifact meets the following criteria of indicator 2.3:

 Candidates work with classroom teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and co-assess information
skills instruction.
 The library media specialist as teacher makes use of a variety of instructional strategies
and assessment tools.
 Student learning experiences are created, implemented and evaluated in partnership with
teachers and other educators.
 Candidates employ strategies to integrate the information literacy curriculum with
content curriculum.
 Candidates incorporate technology to promote efficient and equitable access to
information beyond print resources.

Readers’ Theater has always interested me, and I was delighted when the third grade teacher
suggested using this format as a basis for our collaboration. Recycling is important at any grade
level and the combination was an excellent platform for meeting the requirements of standard
2.3.

Learning to read is the first step toward enjoying reading. I am a firm believer that learning can
be fun, and approach my lessons and activities with enthusiasm and pizzazz, as evidenced by my
construction of this project.

It is clearly an indication of working with the teacher in co-planning, co-teaching, and co-
assessing which students excel at reading, and which students could use extra help. The
assessment is being made through which students successfully read out loud, and which ones
struggle.

This three day class highlights my knowledge in reliable learning theory, instructional design,
ability to adapt to multiple learning levels, and use of multiple medias/formats to meet the
various learning styles.
