Suppose you want to build a computer network, one that has the potential to grow to
global proportions and to support applications as diverse as teleconferencing, video-on-
demand, electronic commerce, distributed computing, and digital libraries. What
available technologies would serve as the underlying building blocks, and what kind of
software architecture would you design to integrate these building blocks into an
effective communications service?

Analysis of requirements will include the following

• Point to point 3 MARKS for a good

• FDM
• Support for common services
This will include identifying common communication patterns 2 marks
Reliability of network will also be considered.

• Performance , consider bandwidth and latency (2 marks)


Network architecture
Considerations will include: layering and protocols, OSI architecture. (2.5 marks)

Implementing network software


Considerations will include API sockets, protocol implementation issues. Example
application can be client server (2.5 marks)
