Project Title:

Staff Attendance System with Thumb Scanner

Problem Statement:
Traditionally, Staff attendance is taken manually by using attendance sheet given to lecturer
not on a system. With this manual system, the data is not secure on permanent bases. There is
ambiguity of losing the data. There is no proper record of every attendance. Because of this problem,
a system may be needed in order to records the attendance of the staffs more accurately without have
to trace manually by on daily bases. A thumb scanner will be provided at entrance. This system will
record the attendance of staffs on daily bases.

Methodology:
Attendance System development is divided into two parts, hardware and software part.

Hardware:
A fingerprint sensor device along with an LCD screen is placed at the entrance of Office
room or staff room. The thumb scanner is used to capture the fingerprints of staff members while
LCD screen notifies the members that his/her attendance has been marked.

Software Tools:
 For the development of the system, the following software tools will be used
 Java Software Development Kit
 Java IDE (Net Beans )
 Oracle Database

Applications:
A Computer can work more efficiently then compared to a human being. The work becomes
easy for the employees and thus, some amount of human resources is saved. Data accuracy is
maintained. Accurate information can be achieved within a short span of time. Data can be
accessed easily and randomly. This also saves a lot of time. Data is protected with the help of
login system. Because of this login system unauthorized persons cannot access the data. No
tedious calculations are necessary and paper work and records don’t need to be maintained.it can
be used for teachers and staff members in universities and colleges. It can be enhanced to act as
wages calculation system and you can add some more modifications.
