Purpose
The primary purpose of the ICBO is to establish regulations and standards for building safety. While the ICBO has no legal (http://www.ehow.com/legal/) authority
to create laws, most cities in the United States choose to adopt ICBO standards.

History
The ICBO no longer exists as an independent entity. In 1994, it joined the Building Officials and Code Administrators International and the Southern Building
Code Congress International in order to form the International Code Council (ICC).

Other Acronyms
A handful of other organizations use "ICBO" as their acronym. These include the Interracial Council for Business (http://www.ehow.com/business/) Opportunities,
the International Chinese Boxing Organization and the Independent Community Banks of Oregon.
