Hurst firm shines
on private list
32 Texas companies ranked

A Hurst-based engineering
company specializing in nuclear
power plant engineering is the
top-rated Texas company on Inc.
magazine's list of the nation’s
fastest growing privately held
businesses.
Plant Technical Services is No.
24 on Inc's eighth annual list.
Amin T. Bishara, Plant Techni-
cal Services chairman and chief
executive officer, formed the
company five years ago, borrow-
ing seed money from his original
employees to get the business off
the ground, said Tom Anable, the
company’s chief financial officer.
A bank had offered Mr. Bishara a
$125,000 line of credit if he could
make a payroll for 90 days. He did.
Today he has 200 employees
and reported $8.9 million in reve-
nues in 1989.
Although the company also
does consulting for fossil-fueled
power plants, Mr. Anable said
new air pollution regulations will
continue make nuclear consult-
ing a growth area.
‘Thirty-one other Texas compa-
nies are on Inc.’s 1990 list, up from
27 last year.

million in 1989 revenues.

list of Texas companies was Air-
| flow Systems of Dallas, started by
‘Tony Bodner in 1985. Airflow
makes air cleaning systems that
remove cigarette smoke from
break areas and industrial con-
tamination from factories. The
founder attributes his company’s
rapid growth to being able to
bring new products to market
faster than his larger competi-
tion.
“Big companies make a lot of
money, but their wheels
pretty slowly,” he said.
To be eligible for the Inc. list, a
company must have been inde-
pendent and privately held on
July 9, the day applications were
due. The rankings are based on
the percentage increase in sales
from 1985 through 1989. Compa-
nies had to show at least $100,000,
but no more than $25 million in
sales, The businesses also had to
register a sales increase between
1988 and 1989. Holding companies,
regulated banks and utilities
were not eligible.
