P.E.

Curriculum

The Seattle Public Schools has adopted the “Five for Life” program for the K-12 physical education
classes. This program focuses on many different components of fitness and health, and is a great tool
for P.E. teachers to address health in their classes. However, some feedback from the program has
indicated that the large amounts of information in this program can be difficult to administer to classes,
without extensive planning.

The following P.E. lesson plan is adapted from the “Five for Life” program, and adheres to the same
learning goals and principles. It is also easy to use, and can be integrated with an introduction to the
school based health center and health center staff. P.E. teachers should have access to colored food
cards used in this game, as part of the Five for Life program. Copies of the cards are included in the
Appendix of the toolkit.
