Fitness Components

• Sports require different fitness components.


• What is the dictionary definition to a
component?
Health Related Components
Five components:

1. CARDIORESPIRATORY ENDURANCE:
• “The ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to take up and deliver oxygen to
working muscles for long periods of time”.

2. MUSCULAR STRENGTH
• “The force that muscles or a group of muscles can exert in one maximal exertion or
contraction”.

3. MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
• “The ability of a muscle or group of muscles to contract repeatedly over a long
period of time”.

4. FLEXIBILITY
• “The ability of a joint to move through its full range of motion”.

5. BODY COMPOSITION
• “The make up of the human body in muscle, bone, fat, water and other minerals”.
Skill Related Components
Seven components:

1. BALANCE:
• “the ability to maintain a position in space”
2. REACTION TIME
• “the time it takes to process and initiate action”
3. AGILITY
• “the ability to change direction suddenly when moving”
4. SPEED
• “the ability to quickly get the body moving”
5. POWER
• “the ability to generate maximum force quickly”
6. CO-ORDINATION
• “combining all body parts together with the correct timing”
7. TECHNIQUE
• “method of performing a particular task”
Sports and Components
• Take a sport and list the 5 most important
components for that sport
Eg. Hockey field player.

• Speed
• Power
• Reaction Time
