THE HISTORY OF MY VILLAGE’S NAME

Hundreds of years ago, Kg Alor Lancang was once a low land separated the
island and villages around by a big, deep river (alor) which is flowed across it.

The river was known to everybody at that time because it was where junks
(lancang) from the places around soiled to and fro as they were the mode of transport.

The place was also a busy trading spot and an important port for the pepper
traders. They stopped there to load and unload pepper from the junks, and it was where
pepper trade took place.

There is no more port of the place now as the river has already disappeared and
the low land is now areas of the padi fields. Kg Alor Lancang was named after the river
(Alor) and the junks (Lancang) and still, there is a small river across the village, and two
nearby villages ; Kg Changkat Lada (pepper) and Kg Pulau (island) as proves to
support the legend of the elders .
