Red Riding Hood Adjectives Exercise

1. First identify the adjectives in this extract from another version


of the story……underline them
2. Discuss with your partner what effect these adjectives have on
the story.
3. Then re write the story, changing the adjectives to alter the
effect of the atmosphere in the woods. Change the atmosphere back
to become scary and sinister….

It was a beautiful sunny day. Red Riding


Hood skipped along into the sunny
woods. She chose the wide flowery path
and giggled as pretty blackbirds scattered
when they heard her coming.
Little Red Riding Hood hadn’t been
walking for long when she heard a gentle
rustling in the trees. She looked up and
noticed something soft and fluffy behind
the bright green pine trees.
‘Oh it’s a cute woodland creature!’ cried a
delighted Little Red Riding Hood, and she
tiptoed softly up to the delicately scented
tree. Slowly and silently so as not to
frighten the nervous wildlife she peered
around the solid tree trunk…..
