1. How can you explain the pattern? Call upon your knowledge of electron
configurations.
The regular, repeating pattern in each section of the graph is because across the rows of
the periodic table, the electrons are all in the same orbital so it gets smaller on the graph.
Down the periodic table however, there are more orbitals present so the line on the graph
gets bigger.

2. What can you say about the trend in atomic radius as the atomic number
increases within a vertical column?
As the atomic number increases within a vertical column, the atomic radius
increases.

3.What can you say about the trend in atomic radius as the atomic number
increases within each section of the graph?
As the atomic number increases within each section of the graph, the atomic
radius decreases because the elements have more protons as the atomic number increases.

4. What can you say about the trend in atomic radius as the atomic number
increases while d orbitals are filling? Give a reason for this trend.
As the atomic number increases while d orbitals are filling, the atomic radius
trend is that they vary because they're unstable because they're in transition.
