WHEREAS, on March 4, 2011, the Mississippi House of Representatives passed a Joint
Resolution to Reapportion the House of Representatives (J.R. 1), which provides in part that the
citizens of Alcor County will be divided among three legislative districts by voting precinets (or
portions thereof) as follows:
District 1: Central, East Corinth, East Third Street, Five-Point and North Corinth
Precincts;
: Biggersville, College Hill, East Corinth, Glen, Kossuth, North Corinth,
South Corinth, Union Center, Wenasoga and West Corinth Precincts;

: Bethel, Jacinto and Rienzi Precincts; and
WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi
believes that there is a commonality of interests among the citizens of the City which favors
representation of such citizens by a single Representative; and
WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen fear that the reapportionment proposed
would effectively dilute the voting strength of a large segment of the City’s population by
causing such citizens to be drawn into a district comprised almost entirely of citizens from
Tishomingo County; and
WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen have serious concerns that the proposed
reapportionment will lead to a significant amount of voter confusion as a result of the proposed
division of Alcorn County voting precincts between different House Districts; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi find
and determine that the proposed reapportionment, particularly the new district lines drawn
through the City of Corinth between District 1 and District 2, is not in the best interests of the
citizens of the City of Corinth.
