RESOLUTION The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi took up for consideration the matter of adopting a Resolution to Encourage the Mississippi State Senate to Reject the Joint Resolution to Reapportion the House of Representatives (J.R. 1) Passed by the Mississippi House of Representatives on March 4, 2011, Alderman Labas moved the adoption of the following resolutior RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE TO REJECT THE JOINT RESOLUTION TO REAPPORTION THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (J.R. 1) PASSED BY THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON MARCH 4, 2011 WHEREAS, on March 4, 2011, the Mississippi House of Representatives passed a Joint Resolution to Reapportion the House of Representatives (J.R. 1), which provides in part that the citizens of Alcor County will be divided among three legislative districts by voting precinets (or portions thereof) as follows: District 1: Central, East Corinth, East Third Street, Five-Point and North Corinth Precincts; : Biggersville, College Hill, East Corinth, Glen, Kossuth, North Corinth, South Corinth, Union Center, Wenasoga and West Corinth Precincts; Di : Bethel, Jacinto and Rienzi Precincts; and WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi believes that there is a commonality of interests among the citizens of the City which favors representation of such citizens by a single Representative; and WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen fear that the reapportionment proposed would effectively dilute the voting strength of a large segment of the City’s population by causing such citizens to be drawn into a district comprised almost entirely of citizens from Tishomingo County; and WHEREAS the Board of Mayor and Aldermen have serious concerns that the proposed reapportionment will lead to a significant amount of voter confusion as a result of the proposed division of Alcorn County voting precincts between different House Districts; and WHEREAS, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi find and determine that the proposed reapportionment, particularly the new district lines drawn through the City of Corinth between District 1 and District 2, is not in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Corinth. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi that the City of Corinth strongly encourages the Mississippi State Senate to Reject the Joint Resolution to Reapportion the House of Representatives (J.R. 1) Passed by the Mississippi House of Representatives on March 4, 2011. ey Alderman Hopkins seconded the motion to adopt the foregoing Resolution and the question being put to vote, the result was as follows: VOTED: Alderman Andrew B. McFall YEA Alderman Mike Hopkins YEA WHEREUPON, the foregoing Resolution was declared passed and adopted at the ‘meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Corinth, Mississippi, on this 4" day ‘of March, 2011.
