Dear Parents and Caregivers

As you will no doubt have seen, our school year is off to a flying start with learning
and extra-curricular programmes well underway. Also, most importantly, the
atmosphere in the school is excellent with a real sense of community and respect
evident.

This letter is to inform you that I will be taking a period of extended leave this year.

I have been awarded Sabbatical Leave for all of Term 2 and will use this time to visit
schools both in New Zealand and overseas. In addition to this I will be absent the
first 5 weeks of Term 3 with a coaching role for Otago Rugby.

In my absence Mr Simon Clarke will be Acting Principal. Simon is highly experienced

and has been a driving force behind many initiatives at Balmacewen Intermediate in
recent years.

I’m looking forward to an exciting and personally challenging year and encourage all
Balmacewen students to make the most of the opportunities on offer.
