Tidewater Community College responds to the needs of its local retail community

The second largest community college in Virginia just announced the launch of its brand
new and innovative School of Retail. Tapping into the expertise of current and local
business leaders the school will serve those interested in entry level positions as well as
seasoned professionals looking to upgrade their current positions or receive specialized
training. The School of Retail will fit into the current design of TCC’s business programs
offering a core curriculum addressing:

 Demographics: marketing and customer service

 Funding

 Retail Operations and Technology

 Shopping Center Management

 Small Business/Entrepreneurship

 Store Location/Design and Planning

 Supply Chain Management

According to Dr. DiCroce, President of Tidewater Community College, “the School of

Retail will respond to a critical need in our region’s economy – indeed, an important part
of each of our daily lives – with the kind of innovative, inclusive partnership TCC has
long made its calling card”(www.tcc.edu/news).

Tidewater Community College has long pride itself on offering an affordable college
education and professional training for adults of all ages and background desiring to be
part of an ever growing and changing global community.

While it has yet to be decided which campus will house the headquarters for the new
School of Retail, Dr. DiCroce recognizes the potential the newly relocated Fred W.
Beazley Portsmouth Campus offers with its large range of open space, ideal for a new
school and surrounding retail locations.

With the assistance of Gerald S. Divaris, real estate developer and creator of the Virginia
Beach Town Center, and Linda Rice, provost of the TCC’s Chesapeake Campus, as well
as local industry leaders, the vision of the School of Retail is becoming nothing short of
reality. Classes are expected to start no later than the Fall at all four campuses including
online.

More information will become available in the future.
