Prayer

Being the Absolute, True being, Consciousness and Bliss, you play the roles of all the three Gods - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. As Vishnu, you have but one face, as Brahma four and as Shiva five. They gladden the sight of all who behold them. As Brahma you prefer the back of the swan for your seat, as Vishnu you like to ensconce yourself on the back of Garuda (A large mythological eagle - like bird believed to be the vehicle of Lord Vishnu) and as Shiva you make the sacred bull your conveyance; all these stand ready. 0 Great Lord, pray rid me of my afflictions!

Quotes on Hinduism

By: Manorma Om Rathi (Mirpurkhas)

Romain Rolland (1866-1944) French Nobel laureate, professor of the history of music at the Sorbonne and thinker.

• Religious faith in the case of the Hindus has never been allowed to run counter to scientific laws, moreover the former is never made a condition for the knowledge they teach, but there are always scrupulously careful to take into consideration the possibility that by reason both the agnostic and atheist may attain truth in their own way. Such tolerance may be surprising to religious believers in the West, but it is an integral part of Vedantic belief.

• The true Vedantic spirit does not start out with a system of preconceived ideas. It possesses absolute liberty and unrivalled courage among religions with regard to the facts to be observed and the diverse hypotheses it has laid down for their coordination. Never having been hampered by a priestly order, each man has been entirely free to search wherever he pleased for the spiritual explanation of the spectacle of the universe.

• Of course, this entire fabric of Hindu life stands solidly on faith, that is to say, on a slender and emotional hypothesis. But amid all the beliefs of Europe, and of Asia, that of the Hindu Brahmins seems to me infinitely the most alluring. And the reason why I love the Brahmin more than the other schools of Asiatic thought is because it seems to me to contain them

all.

Greater than

all

European

philosophies, it is even capable of adjusting itself to the vast hypotheses of

modern science.

Niels Bohr, (1885-1962) Danish nuclear physicist who developed the Bohr model of the atom. His received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1922, for his theory of atomic structure

• I go into the Upanishads to ask questions.

Erwin Schrodinger (1887--1961) Austrian theoretical physicist, was a professor at several universities in Europe. He was awarded the Nobel prize Quantum Mechanics, in 1933. During the Hitler era he was dismissed from his position for his opposition to the Nazi ideas and he fled to England. He was the author of Meine Weltansicht

• The unity and continuity of Vedanta are reflected in the unity and continuity of wave mechanics. In 1925, the world view of physics was a model of a great machine composed of separable interacting material particles. During the next few years, Schrodinger and Heisenberg and their followers created a universe

Dr. Carl Sagan, astrophysicist.

(1934-1996) famous

• The Hindu religion is the only one of the world's great faiths dedicated to the idea that the Cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths. It is the only religion in which the time scales correspond, to those of modern scientific cosmology. Its cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma, 8.64 billion years long. Longer than the age of the Earth or the Sun and about half the

time since the Big Bang. And there are much longer time scales still.

• The most elegant and sublime of these is a representation of the creation of the universe at the beginning of each cosmic cycle, a motif known as the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva. The god, called in this manifestation Nataraja, the Dance King. In the upper right hand is a drum whose sound is the sound of creation. In the upper left hand is a tongue of flame, a reminder that the universe, now newly created, with billions of years from now will be utterly destroyed.

• A millennium before Europeans were willing to divest themselves of the Biblical idea that the world was a few thousand years old, the Mayans were thinking of millions and the Hindus billions.

Count Hermann Keyserling (1880-1946) philosopher, author, public speaker. He is the first Western thinker to conceive and promote a planetary culture, beyond nationalism and cultural ethnocentrism, based on recognition of the equal value and validity of non-western cultures and philosophies.

• Hinduism at its best has spoken the only relevant truth about the way to selfrealization in the full sense ofthe word.

• The absolute superiority of hinduism over the West in philosophy; poetry from the Mahabharata, containing the BhagavadGita, "perhaps the most beautiful work of the literature of the world".

Mark Twain (1835-1910) also known as Samuel Clemens, one of the most widely loved and celebrated American writers since his first books were released in the late 1860s.

• Bharat had the start of the whole world in the beginning of things. She had the first civilization; she had the first accumulation of material wealth; she was populous with deep thinkers and subtle intellects; she had mines, and woods, and a fruitful soul.

• "Land of religions, cradle of human race,

birthplace of human speach,

grandmother of leagacy, great

grandmother of tradition. The land that all men desire to see and having seen once even a glimpse, would not give that glimpse for the shows of the rest of the globe combined."

Dr. Arnold J. Toynbee (1889-1975) the great British historian. His massive research was published in 12 volumes between 1934 and 1961 as 'A Study of History'. Toynbee was a major interpreter of human civilization in the 20th century.

• It is already becoming clear that a chapter which had a Western beginning will have to have an Hindu ending if it is not to end in self-destruction of the human race. At this supremely dangerous moment in human history, the only way of salvation is the ancient Hindu way. Here we have the attitude and spirit that can make it possible for the human race to grow together in to a single family.

• So now we turn to India. This spiritual gift, that makes a man human, is still alive in Hindu souls. Go on giving the world Hindu examples of it. Nothing else can do so much to help mankind to save itself from destruction.

• There mayor may not be only one single absolute truth and only one single ultimate way of salvation. We do not

know. But we do know that there are George Bernard Shaw, (1856-1950) a

more approaches to truth than one, and vegetarian and Nobel Laureate in Literature.

• Hinduism has proven much more open than any other religion to new ideas, scientific thought, and social experimentation. Many concepts like reincarnation, meditation, yoga and others have found worldwide

acceptance. It would not be surprising to

find Hinduism the dominant religion of

the twenty-first century.

more means of salvation than one.""This is a hard saying for adherents of the higher religions of the Judaic family (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), but it is a truism for Hindus. The spirit of mutual good-will, esteem, and veritable love ... is the traditional spirit of the religions of the Hindu family. This is one of hinduism's gifts to the world.

• At the close of this century, the world would be dominated by the West, but that in the 21st century "India will conquer her conquerors,"

Julius Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967) Scientist, philosopher, bohemian, and radical. A theoretical physicist and the Supervising Scientist for the Manhattan Project, the developer of the atomic bomb. Graduating from Harvard University, he traveled to Cambridge University to study at the Cavendish Laboratory.

• The juxtaposition of Western civilization's most terrifying scientific achievement with the most dazzling description of the mystical experience given to us by the Bhagavad Gita, India's greatest literary monument.

Klaus L. Klostermaier professor of Religious Studies at the University of Manitoba.

• The Hindu way of life provides the vision of the natural, real way of life. We veil ourselves with unnatural masks.

Sir Charles Eliot (1862-1931), British diplomat and colonial administrator, a famous scholar and linguist of Oxford.

• Compared to Islam and Christianity, Hinduism's doctrines are extraordinarily fluid, and multiform. Restless, subtle and argumentative as Hindu thought is, it is less prone than European theology to the vice of distorting transcendental ideas by too stringent definition. It adumbrates the indescribable by metaphors and figures. It is not afraid of inconsistencies which may illustrate different aspects of the infinite, but it rarely tries to cramp the divine within the limits of a logical phrase.

• The Hindu has an extraordinary power of combining dogma and free thought, uniformity, and variety. Utmost latitude of interpretation is allowed. In all ages Hindus have been passionately devoted to speculation. It is also to point out that from the Upanishads down to the writings of Tagore in the present day literature from time to time enunciates the idea that the whole universe is the manifestation of some exuberant force giving expression to itself in joyous movement.

Who is Brahmana

By: Rajesh Rathi (CBM)

The brahmana, the kshatriya, the vaishya and the sudra are the four castes. That the brahmana is the chief among these classes is in accord with the Vedic texts and is affirmed by the Smritis. Here there is a point worthy of investigation. Who is, verily, the brahmana? Is he the individual soul? Is he the body? Is he the class based on birth? Is he knowledge? Is he the deeds (previous, present or prospective)? Is he the performer of the rites?

To assume that the jiva, or the individual soul, is brahmana, it is not so, for the individual's form is one and the same in the large number of previous and prospective bodies. Even though the jiva is one, it assumes many bodies due to the stress of (past) karma, and in all these bodies the form of the jiva is one and the same. Therefore the jiva is not the brahmana.

If it is said that the body is the brahmana, it is not so, because of the sameness of the nature of the body which is composed of the five elements, in all classes of human beings down to the chanda las (outcastes), etc.; on account ofthe perception of the common features of old age and death, virtue and vice. Therefore the body is not the brahmana.

If it is said that birth makes the brahmana, it is not so, for there are many species among creatures, other than human, many sages are of diverse origin. We hear from the sacred books that Rsyasrnga was born of a deer, Kaushika of kusha grass, Jambuka from a jackal, Valmiki from an ant-hill, Vyasa from a fisher girl, Gautama from the back of a hare, Vasistha from Urvasi (the celestial nymph), Agastya from an earthen jar. Despite their birth, there are many sages who have taken the highest rank, having given

proof of their wisdom. Therefore birth does not make a brahmana.

If it is said that knowledge makes a brahmana, it is not so, because among kshatriyas and others there are many who have seen the highest Reality and attained wisdom. Therefore knowledge does not make a brahmana.

Then if it is said that work makes a brahmana, it is not so, for we see that the work commenced in the present embodiment or accumulated during the previous or to commence on a future embodiment is common to all living creatures and that good men perform works impelled by their past karma. Therefore work does not make a brahmana.

Then if it is said that the performer of religious duties is a brahmana, it is not so, for there have been many kshatriyas and others who have given away gold--a religious duty. Therefore the performer of religious rites is not the brahmana.

Vegetarianism:

the way to righteousness

By : Mosam K Harani (Karachi)

Sanatana Dharma, today known as Hindu Dharma, the eternal religion, is an integration of nature and scientific principles. Being a part of nature itself, its nature is sanatana--eternal. Dharma is synonymous with prakriti, or primal nature. Dharma is the nature of individuals like salt's salinity, sugar's sweetness and the bitterness of neem. The nature of dharma is to be humane. Animal nature is pashuta (bestial). Dharma is a way of life. It is mental discipline. It relates to life in its entirety.

Our sages, saints and biologists have proved that God created two categories of animals-vegetarians and non vegetarians--each with unique characteristics from birth. Vegetarians are born with open eyes; meat-eaters with closed eyes. Puppy dogs' eyes open days after birth. Vegetarians have small teeth to chew vegetables. Meat-eaters have large teeth to grab, rip and chew meat. Dogs, cats and lions must carry prey with their teeth. Nails also distinguish vegetarians and meat-eaters. Vegetarians have small nails, whereas meateater animals have big, sharp claws to tear their prey. Vegetarians have long intestines. They eat fibrous vegetables. This kind of food is digested quickly, but meat residues remain there for seven and more days. Meat-eaters have short intestines. Vegetarian animals drink water with the lips, whereas meat-eaters use their tongue. Vegetarians perspire through pores in the skin; meat-eaters cool themselves through their tongue. Dogs reject certain human food, like honey which comes from flowers. Even animals understand what to eat and what not to eat. The

elephant, which is very powerful, is a vegetarian, but the lion is a meat-eater. When a vegetarian becomes a meat-eater, which goes against nature. It is also leads to mental perversion. According to one's food so becomes one's mind

,

and the liquids you drink affect your speech. So, human beings have become more degenerate than dogs because they eat meat, which is dog food, but reject human food. All human beings are born pure vegetarians. Non vegetarian ness is thrust on him or her. People in ancient times lived on fruits, roots and ate greens and vegetables. But when animals died in forest fires they got roasted, and human beings started eating them and became non vegetarians. But it is not the food of civilized peoples.

All communities, from the Middle East to Tibet

,

dispose of dead bodies by cremation or burial, but always away from the city, not downtown. Yet human beings have made their own stomachs the mobile mortuary, the grave yard, the cemetery for dead goats, cocks, pigs and other animals, inviting fatal diseases like cancer. And if ghosts, lower astral spirits, earthbound souls come to grave-yards, will they not also come to meat-eaters?

The entire approach and direction of Sanatana Dharma is based on understanding of the three principles of primal nature which manifest in the temperament of man: the quality of sattva, or goodness and purity, rajas, or passionate activity and tamas, inertia and darkness. Meat-eating leads to darkness of mind, thoughts, vision and action. It stimulates everything that is against the tenets of Hindu Dharma. The Gita advocates that food should be tasteful, juicy, stable, qualitative and good looking. It should increase age, good mind, physical strength, strength of sense, health, physical and mental happiness and brotherly feelings. This kind of food is sattvic and preferred by people with pious minds. In the

Yajur Veda we find a prayer, "May our sons, animals, cows and horses be protected from violence-caused death." The great poet saint Tulsidas said, "The highest righteousness and the law of scripture is nonviolence... Mercy-compassion--is the root of righteousness, and the root of sin is injurious intention." But we are not merciful; we kill chickens, goats, etc., innocent beings every day, just to fill our bellies.

No religion preaches violence. Jainism exhorts, "nonviolence is the highest religion." Likewise, one of the ten commandments of the Christian Bible is "Thou shall not kill." It is evident from this that Christanity is also not in favor of meateating. The Ramayana, says, "There is no dharma like benefitting others, and no sin like giving agony to others." It is better to follow the Ra maya na in practice rather tha n just ritua lIy reading it. The definition of religion is that what is not favorable to one's own self should not be done to others. We do not like our children to be hurt. Then what right do we have to cause pain to the children of other creatures? Kindness is the only religion. Otherwise we are just demons and devils--man in appearance, but animal in nature--of human form but animal conduct.

Vegetarianism is natural, based on a universal truth. Ultimately, nature is beyond or above human capacity to create, whereas distortions and perversions are manmade. Hindu dharma, the natural universal law of righteousness, is beyond human actions. It is eternal like God Almighty. Anyone against nature is distorted, and their religion is not religion at all. And those sects in which meat eating is prevalent are man made, having a beginning and an end.

Throughout the world, people are realizing that meat-eating cannot be justified on any grounds. So, let not Hindus, wherever they are, commit the sin of distorting Hinduism with the fallacy

and misconception that it rationalizes meateating as modern and progressive. Hinduism is the best means of achieving the highest progressiveness. It needs to be practiced with faith and consistency. Vegetarianism is an integral aspect of it. There is no basic moral or ethical sanction for meat-eating, and certainly no sanction for it in the philosophy of Hinduism.

Have u heard from people saying that I have done my bachelors or Master from but I am not getting job??? If yes, have u ever considered reason behind this??

The first reason comes to any mind that we don't have reference or support?? Does u really think that this is the reason?? I don't think so.

In my opinion there are various reasons behind this.

Selecting Unsuitable Career:

what we do to select Career?? Answer is simple. We do nothing while deciding a career. We simply select career on wishes of our families. Our families decide that we have to be doctor, engineer. As students we even don't consider our strength and our weakness.

Focusing on passing the papers.

If we got admission in university, our main focus is to pass the paper with high percentage. We don't study our subjects with passion, commitment. Our focus always remained on being bookish. We don't apply our bookish knowledge practically. No doubt there are lack of resources and opportunity, but students of community don't put their full efforts.

Lack of research.

We don'tresearch on our subjects and about our relevant filed.

Not knowing what employer need.

Once we got interview call, we hardly have information about our employer, their

requirement, skills needed for that job. What we do? We simply go unprepared and get confused.

Expecting a higher Salary. We always expect higher salaries knowing fact that we lack in experience and knowledge.

Ways to overcome above problems

Choose the career after analyzing strengths and weaknesses of yours and requirement of any profession. For example if you are doing bachelors in English, then u must have strong interpersonal skills.

Secondly, you should research about future of the profession; analyze the survival of profession after 4 or 5 years. If any profession is currently successful, this may not necessarily indicate that people will get jobs after 4 or 5 years.

Don't focus on passing the papers. Try to excel in that subject. If you are studying material only relating to paper, then u can face difficulties while getting job. U must have heard dialogue from movie "3 idiot", which is " Kamayabi kay peechay na bhago, Qableet kay peechay bhago, kamayabi jhak mar kay peechay aayegi"

Before going for interview, you should get information about job requirement, relevant job description, company background etc. this will surely give u confidence

If you are getting job in small company with little package, do accept that job. It is better than remaining unemployed

I hope above article will help u in choosing suitable career and getting good Job.

Do you believe that God is everywhere (Omni-present)?

Arjuna, I am the seed of all creatures,

nothing animate or inanimate

could exist without me," (verse 390f chapter 10) "Arjuna , see all the universe,

animate and inanimate,

and whatever else you wish to see,

all stand here as one in my body" ( verse 7 of chapter 11)

The bedrock of Hinduism is the omnipresence of God .The very aspects of omniscience and

omnipotence This is the classic statement of the fact that the

depend entirely on the omnipresence of god very shape of god is the whole universe and

.One who is everywhere alone has the everything

knowledge of

everything .When he has the knowledge of everything, he is capable of doing everything and so is

omnipotent .One who is not everywhere cannot be all-knowing and almighty.

The Vedas are full of these principles and the essence of this philosophy is taught by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad -Gita.

" He who sees me everywhere and sees everything in me

will not be lost to me

and I will not be lost to him." (Verse 30 of chapter 6.)

"I exist in all creatures,

so the disciplined man devoted to me grasps the oneness of life,

wherever he is, he is in me " (verse 31 of chapter

6)

"Learn this is the womb of all creatures,

I am the source of all the universe,

just as I am its dissolution" ( verse 6 of Chapter 7)

" Nothing is higher than I am Arjuna , all hat exists

is woven on me

like a web of pearls on thread" ( verse 70f chapter 7)

"The whole universe is pervaded, by my un manifest form

all creatures exist in me,

but I do not depend on them" ( verse 4 of chapter 9)

(animate or inanimate) in it, is part of God This is the Viswa roopa of God .This explains why the Hindus

worship god in all forms that they wish to see him .Such a clear and specific statement of what god is, is

not found anywhere else .in this universe!

The Legends of Holi

By: Munesh kumar Vaswani

Like all Indian and Hindu festivals, Holi is inextricably linked to mythical tales. There are at least three legends that are directly associated with the festival of colors: the HolikaHiranyakashipu-Prahlad episode, Lord Shiva's killing of Kamadeva, and the story of the ogress Dhundhi.

The Holika-Prahlad Episode

The evolution of the term Holi makes an interesting study in itself. Legend has it that it derives its name from Holika, the sister of the mythical megalomaniac king Hiranyakashipu who commanded everyone to worship him. But his little son Prahlad refused to do so. Instead he became a devotee of Vishnu, the Hindu God. Hiranyakashipu ordered his sister Holika to kill Prahlad and she, possessing the power to walk through fire unharmed, picked up the child and walked into a fire with him. Prahlad, however, chanted the names of God and was saved from the fire. Holika perished because she did not know that her powers were only effective if she entered the fire alone.

This myth has a strong association with the festival of Holi, and even today there is a practice of hurling cow dung into the fire and shouting obscenities at it, as if at Holika.

The Story of Dhundhi

It was also on this day that an ogress called Dhundhi, who was troubling the children in the kingdom of Prthu was chased away by the shouts and pranks of village youngsters. Although this female monster had secured several boons that made her almost invincible, shouts, abuses and pranks of boys was a chink in the armor for Dhundi, owing to a curse from Lord Shiva.

The Kamadeva Myth

It is often believed that it was on this day that Lord Shiva opened his third eye and incinerated Kamadeva, the god of love, to death. So, many people worship Kamadeva on Holi-day, with the simple offering of a mixture of mango blossoms and sandalwood paste.

Radha-Krishna Legend

Holi is also celebrated in memory of the immortal love of Lord Krishna and Radha. The young Krishna would complain to his mother Yashoda about why Radha was so fair and he so dark. Yashoda advised him to apply colour on Radha's face and see how her complexion would change. In the legends of Krishna as a youth he is depicted playing all sorts of pranks with the gopis or cowgirls. One prank was to throw colored powder allover them. So at Holi, images of Krishna and his consort Radha are often carried through the streets. Holi is celebrated with eclat in the villages around Mathura, the birth-place of Krishna.

The true path to God and Sanatan Dharm

By: Srichand Kumar (Hyderabad)

What is Sanatan Dharrn?

The religion which eternally exists in God, which is revealed by God, which describes the names, forms, virtues and the abodes of God, and which reveals the true path of God realization for all the souls is called Sanatan Dharm, the universal religion for the whole world.

The word dharm is formed from the root word dhryan (dhryan dharne); it means such actions and such spiritual or religious practices that finally result in all-good for a soul. It means that such actions, thoughts and practices that promote physical and mental happiness in the world (abhyudaya) and ensure God realization (nishreyas) in the end, are called dharm.

There are two kinds of dharmas: (a) Apar dharm, or varnashram dharm, or seemit dharm, or general dharm, and (b) par dharm or bhagwat dharm.

W Apar dharm, or varnashram dharm, or seem it dharm or general dharm.

The word dharm means the religious practices and thoughts that are aimed to fulfill a pious goal in life. Accordingly the apar or varnashram dharm is the religious discipline and injunctions of do's and don'ts that are explained in the scriptures for uplifting the sattvic qualities of a human being in general. Varnashram word refers to all kinds and classes of people of this world living various orders of life (like a family man, a priest, a monk or a sanyasi), and apar word

means 'secondary' or 'general' or 'preliminary' because it is not the absolute or prime dharm, it

is the preliminary dharm for everyone in the world.

So, apar dharm means good karmas with sattvic motivation where a person is devoted to God in a conventional manner, which means a general faith in all the forms of God. Such good karmas pacify the mind of the doer in the existing life, and in the next lifetime they create a good destiny which is called 'abhyudaya' that brings physical and mental well-being in a person's life.

(b) Par dharm or bhagwat dharm. This is the main dharm which brings the absolute good (the nishreyas) of a soul, and the absolute good of a soul is only God realization which happens through the direct devotion to God in His personal form. It is called bhakti. It gives both, peace and happiness in life as well as God realization. Apar dharm is the general dharm for all and is only a preliminary dharm, which is like the preparatory practice for entering into bhakti for those who cannot accept it in their life right away. Bhakti is above all the religious formalities, rituals and intellectual practices of meditation. In one sentence you can say that bhakti is the true 'love' for your soul-beloved God. It could be observed by any person of the world. It is universal; it is for every age; it is said and revealed by God Himself; and it is sanatan which means eternal. Thus, the dharm which is based on such bhakti, which is eternally established in bhakti, and which establishes bhakti for God as a universal religion of the world, is called Sanatan Dharm.

God is: "dharmadhishthan." It means that the Sanatan (eternal) Dharm is established in God and resides in God as a Divine power. It is revealed by God through Brahma before the human civilization and is represented through the Upnishads and the Puranas.

The definition of bhakti (devotion).

1-"'-i+#4fl1l

Bhakti is the submission of the deep loving feelings of a devotee's heart for his beloved God where all of his personal requisites are merged into his Divine beloved's overwhelming Grace which He imparts for His loving devotee. This loving submission has been described in the scriptures and in the writings of the acharyas and Saints in many ways.

There are the famous verses of the Gita that tell about surrendering all the social and religious (apar dharm) commitments at the lotus feet of Krishn and then wholeheartedly and singlemindedly worshipping Him with faith and confidence.

The Ramayan emphasizes on the sincere humbleness of a devotee. Goswami Tulsidas

says,

110 my supreme beloved Bhagwan Ram, the crown jewel of the dynasty of King Raghu! I am the most fallen and humble soul of this world, and You are the most kind friend of all such souls. Your Graciousness has no compare. So, please lift me up from this unlimited cosmic ocean and make me Your own forever." Selfless devotion to God with such feelings of devotional humbleness are constantly expressed in the Ramayan and also in the Vinay Patrika.

Karm-yog and gyan-yog.

Sattvic good karmas on their own only purify the heart to some extent; but if the doer of good karmas starts doing bhakti, his actions are classified as karm yog, and then, on the perfection of bhakti, he receives God realization. Literally the word yog means 'the unity.' Thus, the (Divine) uniting factor, bhakti, when it is predominantly added to the sattvic good karmas, it is then called "karrn yog." Similarly, when bhakti is predominantly added to the practice of gyan (or yog), it is called gyan yog. So, now we

know that all kinds of good karmas and all kinds of yog and gyan-related practices are only sattvic, but when they are predominated with bhakti, they become the means of God realization, because bhakti unfolds the field of God's Grace.

My Thoughts .

By: Manoj Kumar Dewani, (lBA)

First of all, I wish you all a very happy Holi. I hope this Holi bring you the good luck charms that help you becoming a nice human being. I am glad that like every year, my fellow colleagues, and others are keeping the tradition of publishing the magazine alive and hope that they continue to do so. With such a great tradition, it is part of our responsibility to keep our young generation on track and help them as much as we can. In doing so, we need their passion, commitment and the hard work so that it is a win-win for all. It seems that there are some ways through which our young generation can really prosper. Let's look at the bottom up approach:

From an individual's perspective, each one of us wants to be a doctor, engineer, businessman etc. This is clearly not a world where one should limit to pre-defined roles. We should understand at this point in time that there are lots of fields of liberal arts, science, journalism etc that require some smart people. Give yourself some space and think if you can make a difference in those fields. The best way to do so is to read as much as you can in general and in specific about those areas and decide what you really want to do. The possible question that comes to mind is what to do next if I select some field that I don't know of. Here is the solution of that:

So let's say you decide for a field called political science. You search on the internet, and find out that it really works well with your personality. Now, next step you should focus on is how well you can master it. Try to go beyond conventions. Think critically, it's hard, but eventually pays off. Be the champ of the field. Start, by that time, working on opportunities for the career ahead. Find out what you can do to get scholarships and apply. It's really hard to get scholarships these days. There is lot of competition in every field. By the time, you are done with you are an

undergraduate, you should know what/where you want to be next. It sounds like an old grandpa type lecture, but that's the way it is. While an individual is on his way for the above purpose, it is responsibility of the family to give a good environment to progress. Many of our families don't have computers in their home. Of those who have, don't have an internet connection which is the best way to search and study about the importance and potential of other fields. While many at this point would argue about the use of internet in wrong ways, I would still consider it as a useful option. The best that could be done is to put your computer in an open place at your house so that the negatives are reduced as much as possible. Please, for all those, who still don't have computers, invest in this 21st century luxurious item and try to have an internet connection. Providing resources is not sufficient enough to keep the individual on right track. Keep the motivation up by not just giving the random and loose talk e.g.: "Study hard, it will help" rather by reminding the set goal and way to achieve that goal like, "You wanted to be CSS officer. Did you read something important in today's newspaper that you think can be asked in your CSS interview?"

So after its all set, you got the job and everything is all set. Try to do some work philanthropically. That's where all the advanced country like United States has an edge on us. They respect and value humanity. Try to be a nice, socially active and well behaved human. Work for your community, society and humanity. Use your time efficiently.

Always remember that society is made of individuals like you and me, and if we improve ourselves, not only we will progress but our whole society will grow. I wish if I can give you more food to digest out of my experiences both back home and in United States but I believe if you realize the importance of any single sentence in the above article, it will be worth of my time investment in writing it. All I can say at this moment is,

"You know well enough about your interests than anybody else. Try to take advantage of that and do some good for yourself, community and society as a human being."

-Wish you all good luck and happy Holi.
