What I learnt was that the importance of the schools of thought in second

language acquisition , language teaching methodology and the reason why gtm
is so popular. Structuralism is based on describing human languages and
identfying the structural characteristics of those languages. I think behaviorism is
known by almost everone. It is popular approach. It focuses on publicly
observable responses. C ognitive approach gives importance underlying
motivations and deeper structures of human behaviour.Behavioral psychologists
are interesten in answering what questions while cognitive psychologists are
interested in why questions. Constructivism is a new school of thought. It based
on social interaction and creating optimum conditions for learning. Piaget says
that social interaction triggers development at the right moment however
vygotsky says that social interaction is foundational in cognitive development.
All these theories are useful in language teachimg. They can’t be refuted by
using one another. As for gtm’s popularity it requires few specialized skills about
teachers so teaching becomes easier for its advocates.

What I had difficulty in figuring out was that Skinner’s thought in verbal behavior
and Charles Osgood’s explanations.

I suppose I need to focus more on what I had difficulty in understanding and


language teaching methodology.

I believe I may use language teaching methodology tips in my teaching. Every


teacher-learner is unique, no quick easy method is guaranteed to provide
success so as a teacher I should identify what is necessary according to my
classes. I should give importance group working. Also I should respect my
students.I should never insult them because everyone has hisor her self-esteem.I
should arrange activities to develop communicative competence.In summary,I
should teach how to communicate.
