An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down
into any simpler substance by chemical methods Scientists have so far discovered more than 100 elements: – 92 found naturally on Earth – 20 artificially made in laboratories These elements in turn make up the millions of substances in the world. In fact, all matter is made up of one or more of these elements. Element is made up of atoms. Each number is describe by a number called proton number. Elements are arranged in order of the proton number horizontally across the periodic table and further classified vertically in groups. Elements in the same group has the same properties.
