Definition of T-test

• T-test is the standard method for comparing means across any two groups

• It is also the most common measure of ‘significance difference’.

FYI : William Gosset (1876-1937) formulated t-test. He was a chemist by profession


then got fascinated into Statistics. He wrote books under the name “Student”. T-
test is also called “Student’s t-test”.

• Population: The entire group of individuals that we are seeking information about.

• Sample: A subset of the population we actually examine in order to conclude about


population.

• Mean: Average value a variable (metric variable).

• Test statistic: The summary value (often a summary statistic) of a data set that is
compared with a statistical distribution to determine whether the data set differs from
that expected value under a null hypothesis.

Types of T-test

Totally, there are 3 types of T-test as mentioned below:

1. One sample t-test.

2. Independent sample t-test

3. Paired t-test
