Libya – The fight for

Democracy
Libya is a North African country neighbouring Algeria,
Chad, and Egypt. It is currently, unless there have
been developments since the making of this
document, ruled by Muamarr Gaddafi un-
democratically since 1970. Under his rule there has
been much oppression especially towards his
opposition and critics (several of whom were
assassinated)

It is the Libyan people's responsibility

to liquidate such scums who are
distorting Libya's image abroad.
—Gaddafi talking about exiles in 1982

But now as the people of other North African and

Middle Eastern countries, such as Egypt, are rising up
against their governments for greater Democracy so
are the people of Libya and they are protesting on the
streets of Tripoli (the capital city).

Questions:

Should we and other Democratic countries help the

Libyan people or would we just aggravate more wrath
from the government?
If Gaddafi was to step down there would probably be
a military coup rather that an immediate democracy,
is this any better
Should we get involved in Libya in the way we did in
Iraq?
