LINES AND ANGLE

CHAPTER
9
ANGLE
 An angle is formed between two lines or rays which meet at a
point.
 The point is called vertex. Symbol of angle

A
From diagram the
angle is

vertex ABC

The
angle is

scale
OA scale OA

1. State a line for the zero point and base line.

2. Vertex on the centre
3. Look at the another line, state the scale on
protractor. ( inner scale or outer scale)

READ
TO CONSTRUCT THE ANGLE
1. Draw a line segment. One point to the
centre of protractor and the other one at
point zero.
2. Mark a point of angle by read the scale
on the protractor.
3. Connect the mark to centre of
protractor.
4. Labeled the angle.

Using protractor, draw the following angle:
A) ABC = 36 °

B) XYZ = 95 °

C) CDE = 123 °

D) PQR = 270 °
EXAMPLE

b) x + 33 ° = 90 ° a) x + 20 ° = 90 °

x = 90 ° – 33° x = 90 ° – 20°

= 57° = 70°

d) x + 25 ° = 90 ° c) x + 30 ° = 90 °

x = 90 ° – 25° x = 90 ° – 30°

= 65° = 60°
EXAMPLE

x + 140 = 180

x = 180 – 140

= 40°

x + 120 = 180

x = 180 – 120

= 20°
Example:

x + 145 = 180

x = 180 – 145

= 35°

x + 135 = 180

x = 180 – 135

= 45°
x + 105 = 180

x = 180 – 105

= 75°

x + 23 = 180

x = 180 – 23

= 157°

EXAMPLE

x + 310° = 360°
x + 40° = 360° x = 360° - 310°
x = 360° - 40° x = 50°
x = 320°
x + 120° + 130° = 360° x + 105° + 85° + 90 °= 360°
x + 250° = 360° x + 280° = 360°
x = 360° - 250° x = 360° - 280°
x = 110° x = 80°
EXERCISE
a) a + b + 150° + 130° = 360°
a + b + 280° = 360°
a + b = 360° - 280°
a + b = 80°

b) a + b + 148° = 360°
a + b = 360° - 148°
a + b = 212°

c) a + b + 69° + 128° = 360°

a + b + 197° = 360°
a + b = 360° - 197°
a + b = 163°
