Primary Sources:

Clinton, Catherine, and Shane Evans. Hold the Flag High. New York: Katherine Tegen, 2005

This book gave me deep information about my topic so I would say this is my

best source by far. The reason why is because it gave me the start of the 54th

Massachusetts a union army that fought the confederacy in the civil war. It gave

the start of colored troops the significant roles they developed to play.

Hargrove, Hondon B. Black Union Soldiers in the Civil War. Jefferson, NC: McFarland, 1988.

This source out of all the other sources was the best source that I was able to

obtain to answer my topic. The book talked about everything the emancipation

proclamation, infantries, and black union soldiers so it was the greatest help to me

to answer the prompt.

Secondary Sources:

Crisp, Adam. "Freedom Fighters." Chattango Times/Free Press (10-07-2010)

This article provided information about the 14th and 44th regiments and how

colored people advanced into playing a role in this story and the article provided

amounts information about the topic.

Gerber, Joel. "Honoring Those Who Came Before: Juneteenth Celebration Focuses on

African American Freedom." Free Pass, The (Kinston, NC) (06-20-2010)

This article did not provide me with very much information. The only important

one that I found was the article significantly describing the Emancipation

Proclamation that President Lincoln had signed.

Johnson, Nancy. A Sweet-sounding Place: a Civil War Story of the Black 54th Regiment.

Camden, Down East, 2007

This book was not the greatest of sources because it only talked about a boy

named Moses who left his home town to fight with the Union against the

Confederacy. It was basically a biography and I was able to grab a little amount

information from this source.

Leonard, Elizabeth D. Men of Color to Arms!: Black Soldiers, Indian Wars, and the Quest for

Equality. New York: W.W. Norton &, 2010.

This book is a great novel to read it talks a lot of colored soldiers that

contributed greatly in the Indian wars that occurred in 1896. It had major

information for me to get a good understanding about confederate soldiers and

black soldiers that did not play a good role in the past.

Hall, Charlie. "Role of Blacks Not Forgotten in 'Remembering the War'". Sun Journal, New

Bern, NC; May 6, 2010.

I was able to gather few notes from this source I was only trying to get the few

remaining note cards that I had left done. However, I was able to gather a lot of

information about the Petersburg battle and blacks loyalties.
