I sit by the window ,

folding paper cranes .
Each fold , a step
closer to 1000 birds .
The night , its stars shining through .
A good omen that is , we pray .
{Japan}
Mother Gaia trembles with fury ,
unleashing her waves,
whipping us with wind .
All there's left ,
is broken houses,
it's shattered glass, spread everywhere .
Weaved in with it , shattered dreams
and shattered hopes .
But wait-
a flag , torn and shredded still stands .
It's white and red still waving proudly .
A good omen in sweeps of misery ,
that is , we pray .

In distance, I hear a lonely cry .
That is our world, hurt and poisoned .
Spilling poison in Her mouth,
polluting Her air She breathes .
She soon , will break her
contract and lash at us in punishment .
"Look at the stars ." my people tell me .
I go outside by the river
and see its mirror reflecting the stars .
A candle in my hand ,
I set it down carefully on a paper boat ,
and send it down the flowing river .
A good omen , that is , we pray .
{Japan}
Mother Gaia finally calms down
and I gingerly step out onto Her .
"Are you okay?" was whispered ,
but weren't those words lost ?
Down by the river ,
a line of candles sitting in paper boats
appear in sight .
Its lights flicker in and out
as I kneel down and clasp my hands .
A good omen , that is , I pray .

The last fold of my paper crane ,
my fingers trembling .
They expertly thread a needle
and the last crane is strung on .
1000 paper cranes
They float in the air
and I let them go ,
the wind making them fly .
"Make a wish" was murmured
and I whisper them in my head .
A good omen that is , I pray .
{Japan}
A paper crane floats onto my hand
and I see its broken thread hanging .
1000 paper cranes
"Make a wish" was murmured
and I whisper them in my head .
A good omen that is , I pray .
