Final Portfolio

Eng 102
Instructor: Laura Cline

Your final portfolio should include three things:

Essay #2: Your poetry of witness essay. Your essay should be fully
revised and 3 FULL pages and onto the fourth in length. You need a
works cited page with at least two cited sources- your poem and one
secondary source.

Essay #3: Your contextual essay. This one should be four FULL pages
and onto the fifth. It also needs a works cited page with at least four
sources- your primary text and three secondary sources.

You also need a cover letter, which should be in block, business format
and a FULL single spaced page in length.

Here are the minimum requirements for the final portfolio:

-At least one essay of 4 FULL pages and onto the fifth
-MLA documentation of at least three outside sources including both
primary and secondary materials.

All of these should be thoroughly revised and edited, and should

represent your very best work from the semester. Look at the handout
this week on global and local revision and make sure that you are
addressing global concerns. You should address all of my comments in
your revisions and consider taking your essay to the Learning Center,
or submitting to the online tutor for further suggestions as well. You
need to be particularly aware of your MLA citation in these essays. If
your sources in either essay are not properly cited or if you submit
plagiarized work your portfolio will not be graded.

For your cover letter: (addressed to me)

1. Use block business letter format (many examples are available
online). Remember your salutation and closing.
2. Single-space, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, approx. 1 page in
length
3. Focus you letter on the ways your writing has changed throughout
the class. Has your writing process changed? Are there things you used
to do, that you don’t anymore? Has your writing improved? How? What
are your goals, and how prepared do you feel for writing in other
college level courses?
Consider discussing how you have met the learning outcomes for the
course, which can be found on the syllabus.
4. Also use the letter to introduce the writing in your portfolio. What
did you learn from each of these assignments? You can write about
each in a short paragraph, in which you cite the title of each essay.

Good luck!
