Information
Smile (A Dental Drama) is a graphic novel.
Written by Raina Telgemeier, it gives atrue
story about the author's life from sixth grade to
high school.

It has 213 pages.

It is a Graphic Novel. Realistic non-fiction
autobiography. In one book. :)
Summary
Raina just wants to be a normal sixth grader.
Bus two of her teeth get knocked out while she
runs and she has to go to the dentist. The
dentist makes her go on a frustrating journey
with braces, headgears, retainers, and even
fake teeth. All her peers start teasing her and
she doesn't know who to trust anymore. And
on top of all of that Raina has to go through
friendship troubles, school problems, and a lot
more typical middle school issues.

This wasn’t really like the average middle

school book. I thought the main idea and plot
line was kind of weird. Like, I’ve never really
read much books about teeth. But when you
read the book it actually started to make sense
more toward the middle.

Recommendation
I recommend this to Middle School Girls because
the story is about one and shows how to deal with
problems that you might face one day. I think this
book is a 1 level because it only took about 20
minutes to read and it goes by very fast.
Also I don’t think boys would enjoy it that much-
but if you really wan’t to--- then i guess its fine:)
Reading Strategies
Since it already visualizes every scene for
you, I used Connecting. I could connect a
lot of the stuff that happens there to the
things that happen in real life. I used
mostly text to self and text to world- like
bullying.
