IMPORTANCE OF DIETARY FIBRE

Dietary fibre plays an important role in the maintenance of health & prevention of many
diseases. Proper amounts of dietary fibre improve health in many ways other than
digestion. Studies have shown that fiber seems to lower cholesterol, in combination with a
balanced diet. Fiber reduces the absorption of cholesterol in the diet. It also slows down the
rate of absorption of sugars from the food in the digestive system.

In the stomach, fibre seems to affect the speed with which sugar enters the bloodstream.
This means our blood sugar levels stay more consistent, our insulin doesn't work as hard,
& we benefit from a reduced risk of developing diabetes.

Recent studies in this area indicate that sufficient intake of fibre-rich diet may help prevent

obesity, colon cancer, heart disease, gallstones, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulosis &
diabetic conditions.

Fiber rich food should be incorporated into your daily diet, as it is extremely
beneficial for the body. It aids in expanding the inside walls of the colon, thereby
paving way for flushing out the waste products from the body. Eating food high in
fiber content, goes a long way in keeping your digestive system smooth and thus
prevents the problem of constipation.
