Responding to the Novel

Choose ONE of the following questions/prompts and respond in


AT LEAST 10 SENTENCES. You should be using at least one
quote (it does not count for the 10 sentence minimum) and
explaining your ideas/thoughts/opinions fully and with lots of
details. You must write in complete sentences and use the best
grammar and spelling you can.

• What events would you have handled differently if you


were the character? Explain the event, how the character
in the book handled it, and what you would have done
differently. Make sure you explain WHY you would have
done it differently.

• Does the setting remind you of somewhere you have been?


Explain the setting of the novel and then the place it
reminds you of. Do you like this place? What do/did you
do there? Who was there with you? Give as much detail
as you can.

• How does this story make you feel? What does it cause
you to think about? Explain to me why you feel this way,
giving the facts and details from the book that cause this
reaction in you.

• If you could change something about this story what would


it be? Explain how it is in the book, and then explain how
you would make it different. Why would you change it?

• How is dialogue used in the book? Why does it add to the


meaning of the book? How would the book be different if it
had no dialogue? What is the language like that is used in
the dialogue? Why is it important to the story?

• Describe two conflicts going on in the book. What are they


(person vs. _____________ )? Give examples of each and
explain what and who is involved in each conflict.

• Describe how one of the characters reminds you of a


person you know in real life. How are they alike? Give
specific examples of things the character in the book does
and things the person you know does in real life. Are they
the same physically, mentally (in terms of intelligence),
emotionally (attitudes/feelings), interests, reactions/ways
they handle situations, etc.?
