CONTENT:
An elderly woman, whose brain has been severely damaged by
a stroke, explores the topsy-turvy world she has involuntarily
entered. At the rehabilitation center she is being trained,
taught and loved. But she has been knocked out of kilter with
no horizon line to follow, and she finds herself excited by
the prospect of this awesome, horrifying and clearly final
adventure.
AUTHOR:
Arthur Kopit is the author of OH DAD, POOR DAD, MAMMA'S HUNG
YOU IN THE CLOSET AND I'M FEELING SO SAD, for which he re-
ceived the Outer Circle Award and the Vernon Rice Award
His most famous play, INDIANS, was produced by the Royal
Shakespeare Company in London and subsequently at the Arena
Stage in Washington, D.C. and on Broadway. Robert Altman
has since made it into a movie called BUFFALO BILL AND THE
INDIANS. Kopit resides in Connecticut and is currently a
CBS fellow at Yale University

CONTENT:
The play is set in medieval England, but rich in con-
temporary meaning, about a man who has lost touch with
his feelings; John Ferley, a man who gave up the world
to live the monastic life. Part of that life, we discover,
is to give up the monastery for 40 days and submit to a
temptation game, a strange exercise which melds past, present
and future into’a whirling, wilderness of questions.
AUTHOR:
Award-winning novelist, John Gardner, is best known as the
author of THE SUNLIGHT DIALOGUES, NICKEL MOUNTAIN, and his
latest, published in 1976, OCTOBER LIGHT. For several years
Gardner taught Medieval Literature at Southern Illinois
University. He now teaches at George Mason University and
lives in Washington, D.C.

The play is a thriller set in the 1930's in Chicago during
the famous World's Fair. Charles Lang has invented an
engine that runs on water. He has worked entirely
in secret but now wants to make his invention known
and to profit from it. But, unscrupulous lawyers and
manufacturers have other plans for the new invention. The
price for the water engine is too high

David Mamet's most recent Broadway success was AMERICAN
BUFFALO, which opened while his play DUCK VARIATIONS was
still running off-Broadway. The Chicago-based playwright
has written his first radio play, and a stage production
of THE WATER ENGINE was performed at the St. Nicholas
Theater Company, of which he is co-founder.

A fictional dramatic encounter between two people; one the
famous American woman novelist Edith Wharton, and the other
a wealthy young American expatriate. The two are travelling
to a gravesite with the ashes of a dead friend. Strangers
at the start of the journey, at the end they have become
closer by revealing their mutual love of the dead man.
AUTHOR:
Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Richard Howard, was born in
Ohio, educated at Columbia University and the Sorbonne
He is the author of six volumes of poetry, has been a poetry
editor for the AMERICAN REVIEW, visiting professor of English
at John Hopkins University and’ lecturer at Yale.

Mike Farrow is the host of an all-night phone-in show
soon to be taken off the air. As is the case with most
programs of this kind, "Personal Calls", attracts its
share of strange night owls and insomniacs. On this
particular night, Farrow finds himself with an assortment
of callers who test not only his patience but his sanity.

Keith Waterhouse was born in Leeds, England. During his
varied career he has worked in almost all fields of
writing--as a journalist, novelist and playwright. He
is perhaps best known for his novel, BILLY LIAR, which
was subsequently adapted, with huge success, for stage
and film. He writes regularly for British radio and
television, often in collaboration with Willis Hall.

TITLE: PORCH
CONTENT:
A comedy between a mother and daughter on a hot summer
afternoon in a small Texas town. As the women fight the
summer heat and each other, small town life passes in front
of their porch. The setting is Tennesse Williams’ country
but the tone of the dialogue is pure fun.

Jack Heifner's most recent off-Broadway play, VANITIES,
has had exceptional success all over the country in re
gional productions in Milwaukee, Los Angeles, San Franciso

‘A comedy of the old West, centering on women's roles
as Western heroines. In four separate vignettes, the stereo-

true story.

Anne Leaton has written many radio plays, poetry and short
stories. Last year the EARPLAY production of her radio

abroad. She writes full-time and lives in Fort Worth,

Joanna M. Glass is a Canadian playwright now residing in the
United States. She has had many productions of her plays

and disillusioned by the activism of the 60's, Aaron Weis

constant attacks of diarrhea and emotional inadequacy, in
the end, Aaron Weiss succeeds with his work but fails with
the woman in his life.

Mark Medoff is the author of WHEN YOU COMIN’ BACK RED RYDER,
an off-Broadway success of a few years ago. This is his
first radio play and an expanded version was performed on
stage at the Guthrie II Theater in Minneapolis.

‘The play is based on an old Hassidic tale but it is set
in the modern day world of horse racing. It is a story
about a man who is wronged by his business partner and
prays for his partner's demise. After much suffering,
the man's prayers are answered and he returns to his
partner as a friend. The cautionary last line by the
narrator is that "this story has no moral."

Roy London is a resident dramatist with the Circle
Repertory Company in New York. His most recent play

must face the facts of their survival.

Barry Collins lives in Yorkshire, England. He has been
a teacher, documentary journalist and television writer.

TITLE: A GAME OF DICE
CONTENT:
Two men spend their lives in an Athenian cafe playing dice;
Fondas is forever concocting great schemes which, with the
least effort, will bring him money and social position. His
brother-in-law, Kolias, is the gullible listener. In a flash
of inspiration, Fondas rediscovers the idea of slavery. He
will use his sister as a decoy to raise the capital to charter
a ship from an old man who is infatuated with her. The problem
is: how can Fondas persuade Kolias to pay for his grand
scheme.
AUTHOR:
Dimitri Kehaidis lives in Athens, Greece, where, in addition
to being a playwright, he is also a lawyer. Most of his
plays have been produced in Athens by the theatrical company
of Karlos Koun. He is regarded as one of Greece's best
original authors.

GOOD CAUSES: THE CONFESSIONS OF A TROUBADOR was written
and performed by Gamble Rogers. A storyteller, song writer
and guitarist, Rogers portrays the American South in song
and story. The piece is highly personal and autobiographical.
AUTHOR:
Gamble Rogers is a Renaissance man of the South, a teller of
tales, humorist, song writer, poet and musician. He travels
all over the country performing his music. Some of his
classic monologues have been played on National Public Radio's
ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, to which he has been an occasional
contributor.

‘The title of the program refers to tombstones. In an English
cemetery, with the caretaker of the cemetery as a kind of
spiritual guide, we are afforded a glimpse into the lives
of those buried beneath the stones.
AUTHOR:
Shirley Gee is a resident of London. She is considered one
of the most promising new writers for British radio. STONES
was her first play, for which she was a runner-up in a BBC
Radio Drama competition. She has received critical acclaim
for MOONSHINE her second play to be produced by the BBC.

TITLE: THE DISSOLUTION OF
CONTENT:
The story of a woman and her son, German Jews, who emigrated
to England during World War II. As told by her deceased
husband, Marcus Fleischman, the play takes a bizarre twist
when it is revealed that Fleischman has been reincarnated
as a monkey and is residing in a test laboratory.
AUTHOR:
Stephen Davis is twenty years old and lives in London.
THE DISSOLUTION OF MARCUS FLEISCHMAN is his first radio
play and has also been adapted for BBC television.

Cyril Shaps was featured as Marcus Fleischman, and Miriam

CONTENT:
A comic spoof of Shakespeare, heavily re-written and
over-acted. The play opens with General Brutus dispatching
the contender for the post of General of Rome, Lord Fauntleroy,
with a bazooka. He rapidly appoints three fawning senturies
to be his personal praetorian guards--Atrocuis, Ignominius,
and Pandarus--and sets off to conquer the Chinese hoards
The play follows the General Brutus on a quest whose purpose
he does not quite understand but which he executes with comic
zeal.
AUTHOR:
Jeff Wanshel has been a familiar name in American theater
for some time. His play, THE DISINTEGRATION OF JAMES CHERRY
has been performed in New York and regional theaters. His
most recent play, ISADORA DUNCAN SLEEPS WITH THE RUSSIAN
NAVY, had an extended run at the American Place Theater in
New York City.

George Muschamp was featured as the General Brutus. Also
heard were Richard Ramos, Michael Laskin, James Hurdle,
Harley Venton and Guy Paul. Original music was composed
by Herb Philhofer. The production was directed by John

CONTENT:
The setting for two monologues is a Roman Catholic Church
on a Saturday night. In the first, a priest prepares to
hear confessions. Worn by years of mundane revelations,
he allows himself some less than holy thoughts in the hope
that a major diversion will present itself this night. In
the second, a penitent who, having been away from the Church
for many years, has come to relieve his soul of a terrible
burden.
AUTHOR:
Wally K. Daly was born in northeast England, has been a
steelworker apprentice, actor, singer and comedian. His
first play to be produced by the BBC was WHISTLING WALLY
and he has since had seven others produced for British radio.
He has also written three musicals which premiered at the
Chichester Festival Theater in England.

The play is about a young man who lives between two worlds;
one a mythical life that takes place inside his head and the
other harsh reality. To his family, Gilga, the young man,
is a monster who has attacked his own sister. But to Gilga,
in his own mind, he is an adventurer, setting forth on the
last great hunt.
AUTHOR:
John Robinson is a resident of San Francisco. THE HUNTER
GRACCHUS was first produced by the American Conservatory
Theater in San Francisco as part of the "Plays in Progress"
series. Robinson has been writing for twelve years, in
addition, he teaches English as a second language and speaks
Cantonese.
