Interface Design for Mobile Commerce

In this article, authors try to pursue M-commerce through E-commerce. They emphasis
on rapid growth of mobile technology as well as increasing mobile Internet access bring the
concept of M-commerce because E-commerce has its market well established. Also, the
proponents of M-commerce have claimed that it exceeds E-commerce but it is not true in real
world. Their prediction was based on the uses of mobile devices such as cell phones, PDA and
smart phones. But in reality, the lack of rapid growth in M-commerce is slowed down by
technology standardization, limited mobile Internet coverage, poor service quality, and lesser
reliance.
M-commerce have little disadvantage over E-commerce because of slow CPUs, low
bandwidth, and awkward input and output system. These devices have disadvantage of small
screens and employ fewer resources than regular computer. The authors of the article mention
that the interface design for mobile commerce mainly depends upon seven Cs which are context,
content, community, communication, connection, commerce, and conclusion. The context of a
Web sites deals with how the Web sites functions and aesthetics. The focus of context depends
upon how liking pages are established, how menu are structured. The insufficient display space
requires partitioning information in separate page. It should provide summary of the context
rather than whole page in the regular pages. The focus of content depends on how site looks,
compare offering side by side, appeal, multimedia mix, and content type. The community relates
to do different users, how they interact with their friends and business through text messaging
and short message services (SMS) available in the mobile device. Customization refers how the
device is personalized. The mobile device is very personalized item and interface design should
include options for more personalized. Communication refers to dialogue between sites and users
such as broadcast, interactive, and more hybrid approach. Connection simply means linkage
between sites and content and pathways of connection. The commerce is directly concerned
with interfaces related to sales of goods, and product service. A well design shopping cart and
clear navigation to the sites is a great service. The final C stands for conclusion and most of the
m-commerce are developed on the foundation of e-commerce.
