DEFINITION
 A phobia is the fear of a
situation, activity, or thing
that causes one to want to
avoid it.
TYPES OF PHOBIAS
 Social phobia: fear of public
speaking, meeting new people, or
other social situations.
 Agoraphobia: fear of being outside.
 Specific phobias: fear of particular
items or situations. Animal phobias
are into this group.
SYMPTOMS
 Psychological symptoms.
Having a panic attack: feelings of panic, dread, or terror.
Trouble thinking clearly.
An extreme desire to escape from the situation that is
causing the phobic reaction.
 Physical symptoms.
Shaking.
Sweating.
Nausea.
Rapid heart beat.
Trouble breathing.
PHOBIAS-CAUSES
*Existence of a vulnerability or
predisposition genetic- hereditary.

*A phobia usually develop during


childhood, adolescence or early
adulthood following a frightening
EXPERIENCE or a stressful situation.
TREATMENT
 For the treatment, doctors and
experts recommend to combine
and use the 2 following things
both:
Psychotherapy.
Medications .
Psychotherapy
 Experts have been found a decrease
phobic symptoms by helping the victim
to change his way of thinking.
 There are 3 techniques to accomplish
this goal:
 Didactic component.
 Cognitive component.
 Behavioral component.
Medications
 These medications decrease the
physical symptoms associated with
panic by blocking the effects that
adrenaline has on the body.
 This class of medications causes:
Relaxation (but they can produce
addiction).
WEIRD ANIMAL PHOBIAS
 Alektorophobia: the fear of the
chickens.
