ALLEN - Tuesday's city
-couneil meeting didn't have
the proposed K2 ordinance
‘on its agenda, but that did:
n't stop people on both
sides of the issue from pil:
ing into city hall to voice
their opinion. The citizen's
comment portion alone
lasted 40. minutes, and
every speaker brought up
the “legal” drug currently
plaguing Allen.
While an ordinance ban:
ning K2 isn’t expected to
pass until the Allen Police
‘of the drug is complete,
coneerned parents and res
idents approached — the
-counell with a plea to pi
the ordinance as soon as
possible.
“It devastates me that
something like this could
be near our children right
here in Allen,” said Andrea
Samples, mother of an
Allen High student.
Those against the pro-
posed K2 ordinance dis-
cussed their anger with the
actions of the police toward
customers at Jabary
Mediterranean, a local
hookah lounge that sells
K2, Joshua Alamo, a regu-
lar customer at the lounge,
told the couneil that police
were treating custom
unlawfully due to the cur-
rent rise of K2 in Allen.
“There's been a certain
amount of officers. that
have come into Jab
smoke shop to basically
ke away our civil liberties
as human beings and make
feel as if we've been vio-
lated,” Alamo said
running customers off ~
we're nat doing anything il-
legal. If you're not 18, you
an sit there and not touch
tobaeeo but officers will

they're being profiled and
labeled as bad kids, as
criminals,
Jabary” Mediterranean
owner Mike Jabary also
spoke at the meeting,
telling the council about his
encounter with an angry
parent demanding a refund
for the K2 her son had pur.
chased at his shop.
“[ said, 'Ma’am, if you
know your son isdoing that
(K2), why are you giving
him your own card to buy
this stuff," Jabary said.“
said, “I have children, [ put
money in the bank. I con:
trol their money, I don't let
them go out and buy a
product that can harm
them.”
These comments were
made prior to the closing of
darby Mediterranean
‘Thursday night fora health
code violation.
While the city council
had discussed the K2 issue
during the pre-meeting
workshop, they are not al-
their eomments or opinions
on the issue until it appears
as an agenda item in a fu
ture meeting.
The rest of the meeting
focused on two regular
agenda items: an ordinance
for a new shopping center
and a motion to confirm
city council appointments
to committees for the ap-
pointment of boards and
commissions for the 2010-
2011 fiseal year. Both were
passed unanimously.
