Introduction

 A big source of heartburn for those running

banks, managing elections and regulating the
stock markets in India is that the country is
filled with people who are virtually invisible.
 “Our data base are in these disconnected
silos
Governmental Set Up

 The Government of India has appointed

Nandan Nilekani giving him the status of
cabinet minister to head the National
Government ID project
 Mr. Nandan Nilekani has also once in his book
envisioned providing the smart card to all
citizens of India.
About the project
•This project aims to provide a unique
identification card to every citizen of
India.
• This card will contain details like the
name, sex, address, marital status,
photo identification mark and finger
biometrics by 2011.
Cont..

It can be used as a voter I-Card, as a proof for

opening a bank account and among other
things.
the UID numbers and the database will be
linked to agencies such as the Election
Commission of India and the Income Tax
Department, which deal with the general
public and issue of special number cards such
as voter’s photo identity cards in the case of
ECI and PAN Cards in the case of IT.
Advantages of the UID Card
•Every citizen of the country is accounted. All the
information about that person can be saved in the
smartcard and can be updated when needed.
•If this smart card has more information like
health record, travel details
•This will really boost the IT infrastructure of the
country, every hotel or every shop should be
connected to this system and records of every
citizen should be updated.
• This can be very helpful in keeping a watch or
tracking security issues.
Cont..

•No need to carry health records if the card has a

provision to store health records.
•Right now we have many identification systems, like the
Voters card, Passport, Driving license, but once this
system is introduced, we should follow one and only
Identification system and this should be the Unique
Identification Smart Card.
•For every purpose the card should be access, checked
and updated.
