Filter Cup

Reasons why a filter cup is for:

 Helps to clean contaminated water as contaminated water contributes to
epidemic diseases in developing countries
 There are 2100 known drinking water contaminants that can be found in tap
water, including several poisons, therefore filtering the water is important.
 Clean, healthy water is essential for a child proper mental and physical
development
 According to the EPA, lead in water contributes to 480,000 learning disorders
in the United States alone.
 Filter Cup Design
Our design comprises of:
 Cotton balls >separates the dirt from the clean water
 Half a bottle>acts as a funnel for water to pass through it so that it can be filtra
ted through the cotton balls
 A styrofoam cup>for placing the ‘funnel’on top and collects the clean water aft
er the filtration
 Scotch tape>for putting them together
 Materials chose:
 Plastic (bottle) :It is waterproof, strong and light
 Cotton (cotton balls): Able to let clean water pass through and not all the
other substances.

Styrofoam (styrofoam cup): waterproof, light and recyclable
