ausanne is the smallest of the four large Swiss cities and

Lausanne was awarded the title of Olympic Capital in 1994: since
1915, it has been home to the headquarters of the International
Olympic Committee (IOC) and of leading institutions connected to the
Olympic Movement, and to those of some forty international sport
federations and organisations, factors also earning it the title of
global sport administration capital endowed with a “Maison du sport
international” (MSI). In addition, some 300 societies and clubs use
Lausanne as a base for their activities, proving it to be an ideal place
for sport every day, from lake-based water sports to the networks
of walking, mountain biking and Nordic skiing trails in the forests
above the city.
Lausanne has enjoyed a first-class reputation for medical care for
three centuries, ever since a certain Dr Tissot looked after patients
who came here from far and wide. The tradition has flourished,
insofar as the city is home to the University Hospital Centre (CHUV),
several private hospitals,  offering on-call services and check-ups.

The Olympic Museum is for everyone for whom sport and the Olympic
Movement are a passion, everyone fascinated by history, culture and art,
and all those who are interested in to the future of our society. Sport, art
and culture are the traditional pillars of Olympism, and the Museum gives
concrete form to this trinity. The mission of the Olympic Museum is to make
visitors aware of the breadth and the importance of the Olympic Movement;
to show them by means of images and symbols that Olympism is not merely
a matter of sports competition but rather a philosophy of life whose roots are
deeply embedded in our history. The Museum is a centre for reflection that
acts as a witness to the Olympic Games and their role in modern society. In
addition, it is the universal home of the written, visual and graphic memory
of the Olympic Games.
