The Indonesian Soccer Association's (PSSI) disciplinary commission has punished
referees who have refereed matches of the rival Indonesian Premier League (LPI),
by revoking their licenses as international referees.
The association said the referees had violated their code of ethics by refereeing
soccer matches that the association did not recognize as official. Therefore, it said,
the referees were also barred from involvement in any soccer activities organized by
the PSSI.
PSSI referee director Bambang Irianto said revoking the international licenses of the
referees that presided over LPI matches proved that the LPI was not employing
professional referees.
³How can they [the LPI] claim that their matches are professional when the
[referees] presiding over the matches are referees whose licenses were revoked,´
he added, as reported by kompas.com.
PSSI previously claimed that they had received permission from FIFA to sanction all
officials involved in the LPI.
