“Founding Mother” of St. E CYO Roberta Lambert

In 1921, the year before Roberta Lambert was Born: Mar 6, 1922
born, Pres. Warren G. Harding coined the phrase Birthplace: DuQuoin, IL
“Founding Fathers" to refer to those, who by their Died: Jan 22, 2004
leadership, vision, and tireless efforts, founded our
country. While we had the support of many of our Mother of:
parents, only one could rightly be described as the - Don & Cindy Lambert
- Maurice (Moe) Lambert
St. E CYO “Founding Mother” – Roberta Lambert.
- Dick & Arefa Lambert
Of course, during our grade school years, Roberta - Randy & Judy Lambert
managed the St. E cafeteria. She used those skills - Jane & Don Freesmeier
to help us run an endless number of chicken dinner - Janet & Bob Scanlon
fundraisers. She chaperoned several CYO National -
convention trips, opened the Lambert home after St. E CYO Reunion on the Web
Sunday Mass as a gathering place, and donated the website: http://stecyoreunion.blogspot.com
Dick, Jane, Janet
family garage as our official “CYO Clubhouse”.

Miami Beach 1967 CYO Convention Tales … Jim Reinhardt

Roberta and I chaperoned over 25 CYO kids, to the Miami Beach
CYO convention - the largest single-parish delegation there. That
was the largest national CYO convention of that era - over 8,000. It
also had the least well-attended sessions: nearly everyone was at
the beach!
One night, Roberta and I escaped to the Boom Boom Room, one of
the Fontainebleau Hotel’s legendary drinking establishments. St. E
CYO’ers were a-twitter over this but neither of us drank. We only
had Cokes.
Roberta and I did a little sight-seeing while there. We visited
Vizcaya, a famous estate built by John Deere of tractor fame. One
of my favorite photos is of Roberta leaning against a tall palm tree
there. I'm not sure if the tree is holding her up or vice versa.
Upon returning, Roberta learned that some of the girls had taken
the hotel room-service coffee items left outside rooms on their
floor, stuffing their suitcases with them. She was so incensed that
she made the girls send the items back with apology letters.
