MEEGO

MeeGo is a Linux-based open source mobile operating system project primarily

targeted at mobile devices and information appliances. MeeGo is designed to act as
an operating system for hardware platforms such as netbooks, entry-level
desktops, nettops, tablet computers, mobile computing and communications
devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, SmartTV / ConnectedTV, IPTV-boxes, smart
phones, and other embedded systems. MeeGo provides support for both ARM and
Intel x86 processors with SSSE3 enabled and uses btrfs as the default file system.

Meego will run on Intel Atom based Netbooks and has been tested on the following
platforms Pinetrail Netbook: HP mini, Asus Eee PC 1005PE, Nettop: MSI AE1900-B,
Notebook: Acer Aspire One 5740-6025. Thus devices which use other types of
processors like AMD, Intel Celerium, Intel Pentium amongst others would not be
able to work with MeeGo.

For handheld devices, MeeGo would only work on Nokia N900 Handset and Aava
Handset which is not popular and expensive. This implies that people who use sony
ericsson, Motorola, Samsung handheld devices cannot use MeeGo. People who have
other models of Nokia other than the N900 can also not use the operating system.

MeeGo can be used in vehicles that have devices that deliver navigation,
entertainment, and networked computing services installed. It can also be used on
connected television set and media phones.

With all these stated, it would be observed that MeeGo is available to all but can be
used only a small fraction of people who have an interest in the operating system
since there are limited amount of devices that MeeGo can work on.
