Agamemnon was the king of Mycenae and commander of the Greek forces during the Trojan War. He was married to Clytemnestra, but incurred the wrath of the goddess Artemis after killing one of her sacred deer. Upon his return from Troy, Clytemnestra killed Agamemnon in revenge for sacrificing their daughter Iphigenia to appease Artemis before the war.
