Pretty Little Liars

At some point in your life, a lie has slipped between your lips without a second thought. Lying does not
have to be taught to any person, it is our second nature. It could be argued that little white lies simply
make the world go round a little more smoothly. ABC Families show “Pretty Little Liars” relies strong on
the above statement. In fact the show is based around four teenage girls (Aria, Spencer, Hannah and
Emily) whose lives revolve around lies. These girls’ lives have been dramatically changed forever since
the death of a beloved friend (Allison.) The show later leads you to believe that Allison has “magically”
come back to seek revenge for her death and is now haunting these girls until all the lies and secrets has
been revealed. Her murder has yet to be solved; the police are putting pieces of the puzzle together but
there’s some pieces missing; pieces that the girls have yet to share. Spencer and the girls are keeping
secrets and lying to the police, their families, and even each other about the mysterious death. They will
stop at nothing to keep the truth from getting out and protecting themselves! Hannah, Spencer, Aria,
and Spencer are often portrayed as lying manipulating backstabbers. The show has placed a negative
outlook on all young girls. The show perceives young girls to be sneaking, conniving liars that can no
longer be trusted! ABC has gotten it wrong; no age group or gender is better or worse than another!
These four girls have chosen to play parts that undermine them as females; your age or gender does not
make you a liar.
