OVERVIEW OF CONTINUING PROGRESS AT TEXAS COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE

TCOM Student Body Growth Continues

 TCOM’s incoming class size increased 33% between Fall 2005 and Fall 2010, from 135 to 202 students. The incoming
class size for Fall 2011 is projected to be 230, which will bring TCOM’s total student population to 780.

TCOM National Board Exam Scores Continue to Lead Nation

 Since 2007, TCOM students have had the number one or number two COMLEX test pass rate among all other U.S.
osteopathic schools for the national osteopathic board exam (COMLEX) levels 1 and 2.

 TCOM students sitting the first time for the COMLEX test level 1 passed at a rate of 98.5% or higher from 2007 to
2010, while nationally the average pass rate was less than 90% for the same timeframe. Since 2007, TCOM students
ranked the best in the country three times and second in the country once for COMLEX level 1.

 TCOM students sitting the first time for the COMLEX test level 2 have had the nation’s best pass rate every year in a
row since 2007.

TCOM Students Continue to Embrace Primary Care

 Each year, from 2007 through 2011, more than 60% of TCOM students have entered a primary care residency
(defined as family practice, OB-GYN, pediatrics, internal medicine, or transitional). This year, 68% of our graduating
students will be entering primary care residencies.

TCOM Continues to Earn National Rankings for Primary Care and Geriatrics

 U.S. News & World Report ranked TCOM 20th best medical school in the nation for primary care in 2011, the tenth
consecutive year in the top 50. TCOM also ranked 16th for Geriatrics in 2011.

 The U.S. News & World Report rankings place TCOM as the best in Texas for primary care and geriatrics and the 4th
best nationally and best in Texas in 2011 for producing the most students who choose primary care residencies.

Faculty Turnover Rate Remains Low in State Comparison of HRIs

 UNTHSC had a 10.1% average five-year faculty turnover rate from 2006-2010, which when compared with the seven
other state-supported health science centers with a medical school, places UNTHSC in the lowest three and below
the average Texas HRI faculty turnover rate of 11.8%.

TCOM Licensure Exam Scores Lead All Other Osteopathic Schools Nationally
The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) administers the Comprehensive
Osteopathic Medical Licensure Examination of the United States (COMPLEX-USA). COMLEX-USA
Level 1, given right after the 2nd year before rotations begin, requires the candidate to demonstrate basic
science knowledge for understanding the mechanisms of health, medical problems and disease. Level 2,
given during the 3rd year or early in the 4th year, requires the candidate to demonstrate knowledge of
clinical concepts and principles necessary for making appropriate medical diagnoses through patient
history and physical examination findings.

 Since 2007, TCOM students have had the number one or two COMLEX test pass rating
among all other osteopathic schools for Level 1 and 2.
